8-String Electric Bass
I was recently asked to build this custom electric 8-string bass for Paul Hemphill, owner of “The Lesson Factory,” a teaching facility in Eugene Oregon. The process took about 8 weeks; the bridge, nut and and other metal parts had to be hand fabricated.
The bass has an extremely thin and light contoured body made of poplar. The tuners are standard mini-bass machines. The electronics are an 18 volt system, with active/passive Bartolini pick-ups, on-board treble and bass cut and boost and a notch filter/sweep control. This allows a great deal of tonal range and an excellent “popping” sound.
